I had a nice note this morning from Craig Lawrence, chair of the SDGOP, who found Gordon Howie’s claim of being offered the chairmanship of the GOP as ridiculous as I did:
As Chairman of the Republican Party, I must dismiss Gordon Howie’s assertion that he has been “offered” the position of Chairman as preposterous.
Why? First, because the Chairman is an elected position, and though the Governor may recommend someone, as he did me, the authority rests with the Central Committee. I think I can say with a great deal of assurance that Governor Daugaard will not be recommending Gordon to replace me.
Second, for anyone who has left the Party in order to run in opposition to the GOP choice for US Senate to assume that he would even be considered is a concept beyond reality.
I couldn’t have said it better myself.
